Off The Rack

THE BACKGROUND

With the rapid increase in trend cycles and massive growth of social media influencers, our team is interested in creating a mobile app for “Zellienials” who are seeking to identify their favorite fashion finds. Since, so many images are shared online a day, our platform aims to use photo recognition to identity fashion pieces and direct users to where to find them quickly. I was originally brought on to develop the brand identity for the start-up. At the conclusion of the project we decided to extend my contract and focus on the end to end UX/UI development and then prepare it for handout as they headed into pursuing funding.

THE INSIGHTS

I  wanted to learn how users currently search for online fashions including how often they are successful and able to purchase and determine what systems are currently available and what may need to be created to fill the gaps for style searching products. I employed semi - structured interviews as well as screened surveys, followed up by affinity mapping insights from each interview.

The insights gained from synthesizing the findings led me to focus on identifying themes and opportunities and eventually expanding upon the base feature the brand was originally focused on to better suit the users needs. I wanted to ensure that in bringing a new app to market that we weren't limiting the potential by failing to fully address the gaps left in the market by other platforms. So we opted to include better filtration systems, similar product suggestions, and in depth item descriptions.

THE PROTOTYPES

I started with developing ultra low fidelity prototypes for multiple screens and user flows and then narrowed it down to focusing on the users search + information gathering processes, since those needs stood out the most during user research. After an initial round of user testing, we discovered that there were additional key features missing like complete search saving capabilities and additional calls to action to clearly prompt the user to next steps.

THE BRAND IDENTITY

Since I originally was brought on to develop the visual identity and logo suite, we naturally transitioned into developing the UI Kit and style guide to be used for the rest of the design. Our goal was to focus on modern + but with a natural palette so the app would not conflict with the wide variety of images displayed as well as attract young fashion forward people.

THE FINAL DELIVERABLE

At the completion of the final brand identity, I was able to deliver a clickable high fidelity prototype to the team. I focused on the primary user flow of searching and saving to closet.
